Organizational Restructuring
The Situation
Stack’d was engaged by a regulated natural gas utility faced with an uncertain future. Experiencing limited growth prospects, mixed consumer perceptions, and regulation and taxation changes, leadership recognized the need for meaningful change. Stack’d supported the organizational restructuring, reorganization and integration of the utility’s Transmission and Distribution business units (~2000 employees) to drive efficiency, effectiveness, and customer focus.
Our Approach
To achieve an efficient, effective, customer-focused, and future-oriented organization, the Stack’d team:
- Engaged senior leadership to understand the business’s strategic drivers and current organizational structure.
- Quantified potential structural and cost-saving opportunities based on industry research and structural and financial analysis.
- Sought input from more than 200 staff on operational considerations and the evaluation of alternative organizational structures.
- Co-created and refined a preferred organizational structure and complete staff model with senior leadership.
- Developed a detailed 18-month transition and implementation plan.
Value Received
Within a 12-week period, the organization successfully merged the Transmission and Distribution business units, streamlined its reporting structures, established net-new capabilities in customer experience and innovation, and exceeded its cost-savings goals.
